There is a captivating story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den betting is illegal. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a prime location, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are supposedly necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel building that features numerous amenities aside from the casino, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight tables.
